# Use the workflow builder

> Build an automation from triggers, actions, and control-flow steps.

The workflow builder is the visual editor for automations. Start with a trigger, connect actions in execution order, and use branches, waits, and loops only when the workflow needs them.

Before publishing:

- Configure every node showing an error or incomplete state.
- Use the shortcode picker for data from the trigger, related records, and earlier action outputs.
- Check integration connections and client account mappings for actions that call external services.
- Review estimated pricing shown in the builder.
- Test with a safe record, then publish the version you intend to run.

Published workflows run the saved version. Editing a draft does not change the active version until it is published.
